Student Assistant Team- SAT
A Student Assistant Team, commonly know as SAT, is a problem-solving team compromised of a student's teachers, building principal or assistant principal, school counselor, school psychologist, parent(s)/guardians, and any other significant family members. The Student Assistant Team meets when parent(s), teacher(s), or other educators refer a student who is having difficulties in school. During initial meetings, the need(s) of the student are defined. Additionally, team members discuss reasons why the student is struggling. Towards the conclusion of the meeting, an intervention agreed upon. In addition. the team decides how they will monitor a student's progress. A follow-up SAT meeting typically occurs 4-8 weeks after the initial SAT meeting. The purpose of this meeting is to determine one of three outcomes: continue the intervention until the student meets his or her progress goal, change the intervention, or refer the student for special education assessment.
